NABET-CWA and ABC/Disney negotiators are scheduled to meet tomorrow, August 8th and Thursday, August 9th in San Francisco, CA. These meeting dates were established several weeks ago as the parties began planning face-to-face sessions for July and August. Your Network Negotiating Committee has remained committed to holding this week’s session even after ABC/Disney management presented its July 13, 2012 package proposal.
As part of this process, the NABET-CWA Network Negotiating Committee has requested the presence of a federal mediator for this week’s talks in San Francisco. The Union’s request is consistent with previous suggestions made by ABC/Disney management in earlier sessions. While the Union believed FMCS participation was premature then, correspondingly we believe mediation is appropriate now, and would make the best use of scheduled meeting time. As a result, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service reassigned these negotiations to its San Francisco area office, and has assigned a local federal mediator to attend this week’s sessions.
However, in an inexplicable turnabout, and despite the Union’s stated belief that the presence of a federal mediator would be beneficial to this process at this time, ABC has now rejected the Union’s offer by refusing the participation this week of the currently assigned FMCS mediator. Accordingly, today NABET-CWA President James C. Joyce contacted the National Director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, George H. Cohen, to further advance mediation efforts.
Tomorrow’s meeting will commence at 10 A.M. PDT.
The Union Bargaining Committee reminds all members to ignore rumors. All official negotiation and mobilization information will be delivered on the Sector website (www.nabetcwa.org), on Local websites, hotlines, and e-mail lists.
