NABET-CWA/ABC-Disney Negotiations

San Francisco, CA

BULLETIN #32

August 8, 2012

NABET-CWA and ABC/Disney negotiators met as scheduled today in San Francisco. As previously reported in Bulletin #31, in advance of this session the NABET-CWA Network Negotiating Committee requested the presence of the currently and properly assigned federal mediator in order to make the best use of these scheduled meetings. To advance these efforts, yesterday NABET-CWA President James C. Joyce contacted the National Director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, George H. Cohen.

Regrettably, today ABC continued to reject the participation of the currently assigned FMCS mediator and unfortunately, the Company squandered yet another opportunity to successfully conclude talks for a new Master Agreement. Accordingly, this round of talks is now adjourned.

Nonetheless, the Union’s Bargaining Committee believes that involvement of the FMCS is appropriate at this stage of negotiations. Therefore, with the assistance of FMCS National Director Cohen, NABET-CWA has now secured ABC’s participation for east coast based mediation sessions to be held in the near future. While we would have preferred that mediation sessions commenced this week, the Union is committed to fully participating in the process when the parties reconvene.

Further details on future meeting dates and developments with the FMCS will be provided to the membership as they become available.

The Union Bargaining Committee reminds all members to ignore rumors. All official negotiation and mobilization information will be delivered on the Sector website (www.nabetcwa.org), on Local websites, hotlines, and e-mail lists.
