San Francisco, CA

NABET-CWA and ABC/Disney negotiators were scheduled to meet again today in San Francisco, CA. As we reported in Bulletin 32, this round of talks adjourned prematurely yesterday when twenty minutes into the session the Company suggested a halt in the process, until such time as the parties and the FMCS could agree to future dates for meetings on the east coast.
This avoidable delay is a direct result of the Company’s emphatic refusal to allow the currently assigned mediator to begin the mediation process here in San Francisco. The Union requested the services of the FMCS, and a west coast mediator was assigned by that agency to our negotiations here. The Company flatly refused to allow the assigned mediator to participate in these talks, this week. Despite a number of attempts - including outreach to the National Director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service – ABC’s Chief Spokesperson Marc Sandman rebuffed the Union’s good-faith offer to engage in mediation. Neither party can compel the other to participate in mediation, so the Union has agreed to postpone the process until late September.
NABET-CWA, ABC-Disney and the federal mediator are now scheduled to meet September 28, 29 & 30, 2012 in the New York City area. More information will be provided to the members as it becomes available.
The Union Bargaining Committee reminds all members to ignore rumors. All official negotiation and mobilization information will be delivered on the Sector website (www.nabetcwa.org), on Local websites, hotlines, and e-mail lists.
