NABET-CWA/NBCU NEGOTIATIONS

NEW YORK CITY

BULLETIN #1 - January 4, 2018

NABET-CWA and NBC Universal opened negotiations for a successor Master Agreement on January 3, 2018, in New York City.

Representatives of NBC Universal met with the Union’s bargaining committee to establish ground rules for the negotiations and to exchange initial proposal packages. The parties have agreed to an on-the-record, limited issue bargaining approach as they re-negotiate certain terms and conditions in the Master Agreement. The current agreement is set to expire on March 31, 2018.

The Union is represented by Lou Marinaro, Rob Weiss and Max Sicherman (New York, Local 11), Mike Judge and Bob Williams (Washington, D.C., Local 31), Ed Dabrowski and Don Villar (Chicago, Local 41), Steve Ross and Warren Stern (Los Angeles, CA, Local 53) as well as NABET-CWA General Counsel Judi Chartier. NABET-CWA Sector President Charles Braico led the talks for the Union’s team.

CWA President Chris Shelton joined the Union’s committee for this opening round. President Shelton addressed NBCUniversal management and emphasized the importance of achieving a fair deal – one that reflects the contributions NABET-CWA members make to the Company’s numerous achievements and successes.

The Union’s package is designed to improve benefits and working conditions for daily hire and staff employees, and seeks more daily hire to staff conversions. Other proposals are aimed at addressing travel, meal, safety and quality of life issues for studio, news, and field productions.

The parties are scheduled to conduct this first round of negotiations in New York City through Thursday, January 12th. The next round of negotiations will commence in Los Angeles, CA on January 23, 2018.

Bulletins and other official information concerning these negotiations will be distributed by the Sector and Locals as necessary.
